Questions
Short answers to the questions that come before an order. If yours is not here, ask us.
Ordering
How do I order a part?
Send a request with your vehicle and the part you need. We match it and email one quote: the part, shipping, any sales tax and a delivery estimate. When you approve it, we send a secure invoice to pay online. Nothing is charged before that.
Are your parts new?
Yes. We sell new aftermarket replacement parts.
What does “aftermarket” mean?
An aftermarket part is made by a company other than the vehicle’s manufacturer, to fit and work like the original. Quality varies by maker, which is why independent certification exists. Where a CAPA certified version is available, ask and we quote it.
Do you sell original-equipment (OEM) parts?
Not at this time. We sell aftermarket replacements, and we use the original part number to match each one to your car.
Fitment
How do I know the part will fit?
Send the VIN if you can. We check the original part number and the Partslink number against your car’s build, then confirm the options that change the part: lamp type, mirror functions, sensor openings, engine and transmission. How we match parts has the detail.
Where do I find my VIN?
At the base of the windshield on the driver’s side, on the label in the driver’s door jamb, and on your registration and insurance card. It is 17 characters long and never uses the letters I, O or Q.
What if I only know the year, make and model?
That is enough to start. We will ask a question or two about trim and options before we quote.
Which side is “left”?
Left and right are named from the driver’s seat, facing forward. On U.S. vehicles, left is the driver’s side. More on sides.
Do body parts come painted?
No. Bumper covers, hoods and fenders come in primer, and paint-to-match mirror caps come primed or in smooth black. A body shop paints them to match. Test fit before paint.
Shipping
Where do orders ship from?
From U.S. distributor warehouses. Your order leaves the warehouse that has the part in stock, so the box may show the distributor’s name on the label.
How long does shipping take?
Your quote states when the part will ship and gives a delivery estimate for your address. Tracking is emailed when the label is printed. If we cannot ship when the quote says, we tell you, and you can cancel for a full refund. See Shipping.
Do you ship large parts such as hoods and bumpers?
Usually. Bumper covers and most large parts travel as oversize parcels. Hoods and other freight-only parts are quoted case by case, and some cannot go to a home address. The cost is on the quote before you pay.
Do you ship outside the United States?
Not at this time. We ship to U.S. addresses. Oversize parts to Alaska, Hawaii and U.S. territories are quoted case by case.
Returns and warranty
What is your return policy?
You have 30 days from delivery to return a part that is new and unpainted, in its original packaging. A test fit does not count as installing it. If we sent the wrong part, or it arrived damaged or defective, return shipping is on us. The full policy is on Returns and warranty.
The part arrived damaged. What now?
Tell us within 3 business days of delivery and send photos of the part, the box and the shipping label. We replace it or refund it, your choice, and you do not pay to send it back.
Is there a warranty?
Most parts carry a manufacturer’s limited warranty against defects. Your quote names it and its length, and we send the full written terms on request before you pay. If something fails, contact us and we handle the claim.
The company
Who is Cowl Tag Auto Parts?
An online parts retailer based in Scottsdale, Arizona, organized as Cowl Tag Auto Parts LLC in October 2026. About us.
What is a cowl tag?
The stamped metal plate riveted to the firewall of a classic General Motors car. It records how the body was built: style, trim, paint and build date. How to read one.
Do you charge sales tax?
We collect sales tax where the law requires us to. On marketplace orders, the marketplace calculates and collects it.
